HereCare – Courtney & Beckett’s Story
In 2022, Courtney delivered her first baby, Beckett, three weeks early at Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin (ASMCA). Everything went well with Beckett’s birth, but he seemed a little jaundiced.
After leaving ASMCA, they went home to Kyle knowing they’d need to do follow-up tests for Beckett at Ascension Seton Hays. Beckett was quickly admitted to the NICU at Ascension Seton Hays for phototherapy to treat his jaundice, and because scans showed that his organs appeared larger than normal.
After being admitted, Courtney and her husband, Brice, were immediately struck by how welcoming the NICU at Ascension Seton Hays was.
“We felt like we were at home anytime we were there,” Courtney said. “The facilities were really nice, everyone was quick to take care of anything Beckett needed, and all of the nurses encouraged us to take care of ourselves.”
Beckett, now two-and-a-half years old and thriving, was able to leave the NICU after a week, but the impact the NICU nurses had on Courtney will last a lifetime.
“They changed my life,” Courtney shared. “I can’t talk enough about the nurses in the NICU. No one wants you to suffer in silence. I felt really cared for in what can be a scary environment.”
