In emergency medicine, every minute matters. Thanks to your generous gifts, we’ve made important changes to the Ascension Seton Hays Emergency Department that help our patients and our care team.
Our recent renovation project enclosed the front desk in the lobby with secure walls and windows and adjusted the layout of our “quick-look” triage area to improve security and patient flow. These changes protect our care team and provide patients with the care they need faster.
Before the renovation, our staff worked at an open desk in the lobby with an open access “quick-look” area. This left them exposed should a dangerous situation arise. Now, thanks to donors like you, our associates care for patients in a secure, enclosed area. This keeps them safe while they help patients and families during stressful times.
The new triage area also lets our team check patients within minutes after they arrive. This allows our caregivers to understand the level of care each patient needs and prepare appropriate bed space in our busy ED.

Luke Miller, Chief Operating Officer at Ascension Seton Hays, says: “This is a big win for associate safety and patient flow. It makes our staff feel valued while helping us get patients the right care quickly. The donors and foundation made this possible.”
Ascension Seton Hays is the only Level II Trauma Center between San Antonio and Austin. In 2024, we provided 54,434 visits for patients across Central Texas who needed emergency help, a 20% increase in the past two years. As one of the busiest emergency departments in our region, it’s important that our facility operates effectively to meet the growing number of patients in need.
Why Unrestricted Gifts Matter
This project highlights the importance of our HereCare initiative. HereCare aims to provide unrestricted dollars for our hospital leaders to use where they’re needed most and right when they are needed—like making the emergency room safer or helping patients get care faster.
When you support Ascension Seton Hays, you’re not just paying for buildings or equipment—you’re helping our caregivers and improving healthcare for everyone in our community. That’s what HereCare is all about.
Thanks to our donors, patients now get faster care, and our caregivers work in a safer place where they feel valued and protected. Thank you for making this possible!
