Celebrating 20 Years of Impact

The Children’s Care-a-Van has provided services by parking near four different schools within Caldwell County each week for 20 years!

Originally designed as a bridge for children with immediate medical needs, with the goal of linking them to a primary medical home, the first pediatric mobile medical clinic began in Caldwell County in 2003. But, due to a persistent lack of resources – especially shortage of primary care physicians who accept CHIP/Medicaid – the Vans quickly became and continue to be THE primary medical home for thousands.

The Care-a-Van has provided immunizations, well and sick visits, and most recently telehealth. When COVID-19 became a global pandemic, schools closed for the remainder of the school year, but the Care-a-Van continued to care for patients at either Ascension Seton Edgar B. Davis in Luling or the Ascension clinics in Lockhart. Children in our community have had consistent care for 20 years due to this amazing program.

We wanted to take this opportunity to THANK YOU for making this program possible, and recognize the incredible impact your contributions have had to support the growing population of vulnerable youth in Caldwell County.

These past 20 years the Care-a-Van team has provided pediatric healthcare with:

  • 40,000 Total Patient Visits
  • 37,000 Immunizations
  • 92.5% Patients are Under or Uninsured
  • 390 New Patients Each Year

Thank you again for making this care possible for the children of Caldwell County. We have more exciting updates to share as we celebrate this year – so stay tuned!
