A heart-felt reunion at Ascension Seton Hays

Keri Barfield entered the conference room at Ascension Seton Hays and was immediately surrounded by a crowd of associates from Ascension Seton Hays (ASH) and Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin (ASCMA). These were the care teams that saved her life after her heart attack just a few months earlier. Throughout the reunion with her care teams, Keri offered her personal thanks to doctors, nurses and emergency crews.

In the Spring of 2025, Keri took her dogs for their usual morning walk when she collapsed in a neighbor’s yard. The neighbor called 911 and first responders were on the scene within minutes. At ASH, the cardiac teams stabilized Keri and then sent her to ASCMA for the critical care she needed.

At the reception, Keri said she’s recovering well and feeling strong. She said it was an honor to reunite with the many people whose skill and care saved her life.

“It’s been a beautiful thing,” said Keri. “I am just so grateful to have the opportunity to say thank you to everybody in this room that took care of me.”
