Randall’s Story – McCoy Wellness Center

Randall loved working as a bartender and meeting all kinds of people. But 40 years of working on his feet and hauling kegs left a big toll on his body. A slip on the job lead to multiple surgeries and injuries over the years.

As a longtime resident of Kyle, Randall was thankful when Ascension Seton Hays opened. It meant he could receive care, and physical therapy to recover, without fighting traffic.

Randall has turned to the rehab team at Ascension Seton Hays for over 9 years for physical and occupational therapy. “Rehab care at Ascension Seton Hays is not like any other hospital. I’m more than a number, I’m part of the family.” The close relationship with his therapists truly motivates him through the long road of recovery.

Five years ago, the rehab team moved from a cramped office deep inside the hospital to the McCoy Wellness and Rehabilitation Center. The new facility is bright and open, with state-of-the-art equipment and space to treat more patients. The first-of-its-kind center was completely funded by over 300 generous donors.

For Randall, the new facility was a game changer, “I was blown away. There was more equipment and room to workout. It is a much better place to heal.” The extra space allowed him to get to know other patients and build relationships with the entire care team.

Randall credits the rehab team, and facility, for still being able to enjoy antiquing across Texas after his many surgeries and injuries. “I can still walk, get outside, drive, and enjoy life thanks to the great care of Ivan, Courtney and the entire rehab team. They have truly extended my life.”
